As I reflect on all of the varying priorities as a mom, executive, fiancé, sister, daughter, aunt, friend, mentor and champion for excellence in self and others I must say that it is A LOT. I can’t count the number of times people ask me how I keep it all straight but the answer has changed over the years. I used to say I just focused on doing one thing at a time. As I have matured, failed, risen from the ashes and evolved, I have discovered that I very rarely only do one thing at a time. I constantly write myself notes and while many of those notes are mental notes, I have a habit of writing things down that need to be done and tossing the note as I complete each task. I get a sense of satisfaction each time I toss a note or cross out the mental note that goes unspoken but it drives me to keep going long after most others stop. My team used to hear me say “we don’t stop when we are tired, we stop when we are done”. I’m working on managing that better now because too much of anything isn’t good or healthy and other areas of your life suffer if you live by that mantra in a relentless way. The COVID pandemic wasn’t something any of us could have predicted, but it forced me to take a step back (after forcing me to jump in to protect my almost 14,000 employees and family) and examine more closely my life (past, present & future), take a critical inventory of what has brought me success and failures at this point. However, with the forward focus- I know what I must seek out is BALANCE. This blog will share with the world the kaleidoscope of a life that I have created in partnership with many people in my life in hopes that you (or frankly anyone) who comes across similar scenarios can find encouragement, humor and hope to keep pushing. I have a lot going on this is true, but all of it has resulted in a vivid and beautiful view from my vantage point. I want to make the world a better place and I believe my story can help you do that for yourself if that’s what you choose. You will maybe learn something from my successes, but I believe you will learn far more from my failures and setbacks just as I have. I appreciate you taking the time to read on…welcome.
